For Arket, a new modern-day market, we have developed a facade system specially designed to integrate into shopping malls. It is an adaptable design that clearly communicates Arket’s identity within the modern shopping mall, taking into account various facade sizes, from wide to narrow, to tall to low shop fronts. The images and drawings below show the Arket store in Westfield Shopping Centre in London Stratford.
The extremely deep vertical aluminium mullions set a clear and recognisable grid that reflects on Arket’s core themes of ‘Archive’ and ‘Repetition’. Seen from the side, the facade sets a clear contrast to its neighbouring shops and appears almost solid. Seen from front, it opens up and gives views into its store.
Specific objects and functions are placed inside the facade grid in a modular fashion, allowing for endless combinations and compositions for the varying locations. A granite bar with perforated steel canopy opens up the cafe from the inside to the outside, large timber doors create a warm opening, and terrazzo and granite benches give places to sit in front of the facade.
